Kick&Box
Q: How do I begin?
A: Classes are ongoing just check the class schedule and find the days and times that work best for you. Please arrive 10 minutes early to your first class to register and receive your boxing gloves.
Q: I feel I am out of shape can I still attend Kick&Box classes?
A: Yes. Our beginning classes focus on stretching and learning the techniques. We encourage students in our all levels classes to go at their own pace gradually building flexibility and endurance.
Q: What should I wear to Kick-Box?
A: Loose fitting lightweight workout clothes work best. Long workout pants or cropped yoga style pants (not shorts) and a t-shirt or no-sleeve shirt. You do not need shoes, we workout in bare feet.
Q: What should I bring?
A: Water.
Q: Is there any contact in Kick&Box?
A: No. We hit targets and Wavemasters (which is a free standing heavy bag). You will not spar in kick&box classes. Sparring is done in karate classes at green belt and above levels.
Q: What is the difference between your kick&box and karate programs?
A: Many of the techniques are the same. However our karate program encompasses more techniques including, sparring, traditional forms and weapons. Each technique builds on the other in karate which is why we have belts to honor the knowledge and ability learned at each belt level. Kick&Box incorporates more boxing techniques. Mr. Hunt was a sparring partner to kickboxers including world champion fighters. He designed the kick&box course based on the same work out kickboxers would do when training for a fight (with the exception of sparring). Our kick&box program is a conditioning program where you will learn correct techniques. It is a for those interested in martial arts and boxing but who do not want to earn belts or wear a uniform.
Q: What is the difference between your kick&box program and kickboxing offered at a health club?
A:Our program is nothing like what they offer at a health club! Health Clubs borrowed the phrase "kickboxing" to describe their aerobic classes which mimic karate kicks and boxing techniques. They are often taught by people who are inexperienced in sparring, martial arts and boxing. Cardio conditioning is emphasized over correct techniques. Kickboxing in is truest form is a type of martial arts which uses karate and boxing in fighting. Our classes are taught by black belts who have experience in karate, boxing and sparring and will teach you proper techniques.
